Virtual Conference 2023 Ontario Ancestors, The Ontario Genealogical Society

Call for Volunteers

The 2023 Ontario Ancestors’ Diversity in Genealogy virtual conference is a volunteer-run event. With two streams of webinars to be held from 9am-4pm on both Saturday, September 9th and Sunday September 10th, we are in need of volunteers to help on those days!

All of our sessions will be Zoom sessions, with the audience muted and no cameras enabled. We have a total of 24 sessions over the two days, two running at any given time. For each session, we are in need of two volunteers – one who will be the presentation moderator and one who will be the technical moderator.

Presentation moderators will welcome and introduce the speaker (script provided), will handle the online Q&A after the presentation, will thank the speaker, and wrap up the session. If you speak well in a Zoom type meeting, this is the perfect role for you.

Technical moderators will ensure that the Zoom is open, let the registrants into the presentation, ensure that the speaker is set up and ready to go, deal with any technical issues that registrants may have and close off the session once the time has elapsed. If you have technical skills or have done this for a previous conference, this is the perfect role for you.

We are asking for volunteers to help in blocks of three hours. Each moderator will do a half day of sessions and will need to be available 15 minutes prior to the start of the first session. Training materials will be provided a week in advance of the conference and an opportunity to rehearse will be provided during the week leading up to the conference.

If you are interested in volunteering for either of these roles please complete this form. If you have questions, please email us

Successful applicants will be provided with complimentary registration for the conference.
